About CatNicknames

CatNicknames is an independent American-English site with a free cat name generator and cat name lists. Our editors write the lists by hand and sort them by coat color, boy or girl, personality and syllables, so you can find a name that suits your cat.

What we make

The core of the site is the cat name generator. It draws from our own list of names, each with a short note on the kind of cat it suits. We also write a warrior-style generator and, over time, lists by color, sex, personality, theme and breed.

How the lists are written

Every name starts as an idea from an editor. We sort it by the coat colors it fits, whether it leans boy, girl or unisex, and whether it feels cute, funny, cool or classic. We then write a short line on the kind of cat that suits it. Names are checked for repeats and for anything that could hurt: no slurs, no jokes about a cat’s body or health.

The generator never invents text on the fly. It only picks from the lists, which means every result is a name an editor has read.

Who writes CatNicknames?

The site is written and edited by the CatNicknames editors. We do not publish named authors, vets or credentials, because none are claimed.

Are the names copied from other sites?

No. The lists are our own. Character names are only mentioned to describe them and belong to their owners.

Can I suggest a name?

Yes. Use the note form under the generator on the home page or write to the address on the contact page. An editor reads every note before it appears.
